Description
BEAST Components RISER BAR 15 2.0 handlebar carbon, UD finish, 31.8mm - 780mm, black
Our riser bar is not only more stable than most of its competitors, but also noticeably more comfortable. Thanks to the use of the highest quality materials and its sophisticated carbon layout, it absorbs small impacts and vibrations much better. At the same time, it is stiff enough to give you the right feedback and maneuver very precisely.
“The Riser Bar [2.0] carbon handlebar from Beast Components is made for the toughest enduro trails and downhill use - and it holds up where some other carbon handlebars fail. The brake clamps on many brakes are out of round and only have a minimal contact surface. This leads to unfavorable load distribution and can leave indentations on carbon handlebars. The Riser Bar [2.0] prevents this with a special polyester prepreg fleece and a load-appropriate carbon layer structure. With up to 6 Nm, it can withstand a tightening torque that is twice as high as a normal carbon handlebar. This means you can easily tighten the brakes with a multitool on the trail without running the risk of damaging the handlebars. Despite its high stability, the riser bar remains an absolute lightweight, weighing between 174 and 234 g, depending on the model. It is 100% handmade in Germany and its perfect finish gives the look of any bike extra points. It comes in many different widths, with a 31.8mm diameter and a 15mm rise. There should be a suitable riser bar for almost every biker."
WHY THE HANDLEBARS WERE NECESSARY TO REVISE
Some brakes and clamps that have recently come onto the market, such as those from Shimano and SRAM, have a very unfavorable clamp design for carbon and lightweight handlebars. The clamps are not round and the contact surface is minimal. This means that loads are no longer distributed over the entire area of the clamping area of the handlebars, but are introduced at specific points. This squeezing principle of the new brake clamps is pure poison for any carbon structure.
You don't have to be an engineer to understand that the forces hitting the handlebars cannot be distributed appropriately.
Thanks to our close collaboration with the development service provider Realize Engineering, which specializes in high-tech lightweight construction, it was no problem to take a closer look at the most common brakes on the market. The results were worrying.
We have spoken to the manufacturers concerned and informed and sensitized our customers about this. We have considered locking the relevant brakes and clamps for our MTB handlebars. In the end, however, we realized that we had to live with the new clamp designs and therefore set out to find the best possible solution.
THAT IS NEW
In order to achieve even greater safety and durability, we took another look at the structure of the handlebars in the clamping area of the brake levers. In addition to the new, even more sophisticated and load-oriented layer structure and a very complex fiber arrangement, we now use a special polyester prepreg fleece for our risers and flat bars.
The polyester prepreg fleece has the following positive properties for us: It has high strength and creep resistance and at the same time has low sliding friction and sliding wear. We only use it in the clamping area of the brakes. This means that point loads are absorbed much better and distributed evenly across the handlebars. Indentations from the clamps are minimized and the carbon layers underneath are protected.
In a sense, it is a safety buffer for the pressure-sensitive carbon surface and allows you to freely select your desired brake and use a higher tightening torque.
SAFETY FIRST
The polyester prepreg fleece we use blends discreetly into the appearance of the handlebars, but visually breaks through the fiber structure. Once fittings and handles have been installed, the new clamping area is no longer noticeable. We accept the visual change and the additional weight of approx. 20 g compared to the old models because it gives you significantly more safety. And that’s probably what matters when it comes to MTB.
To confirm the new level of security, we have tightened our testing procedures again. In addition to the test cycle we depicted in accordance with the Zedler Institute's Multi Load Test, more realistic operations were added. This includes, for example, turning the brake clamps five times with a tightening torque of 1.5 Nm and tightening and loosening the brake clamps ten times with a tightening torque of 4 Nm before the actual test.
