MONSTER TIRES, Fast Ride
The OPEN UP inspired a generation of gravel bikes that could accommodate up to 2.1-inch tires. The WI.DE. (Winding Detours) can run even larger tires (up to 2.4") and still mount road cranks! The monster tires help you conquer the most extreme terrain, the performance geometry and narrow Q-factor keep you efficient, while the steering geometry keeps you agile.WHAT IS THIS WHAT?
With 650b gravel or mountain bike tires up to 2.4 inches (61 mm), rutted singletrack, slippery roots and loose rocks are no problem
With 700c gravel tires up to 46mm, even the toughest gravel roads can be tackled in a flash
With 700c road bike tires (we recommend 35-40mm wide) you have the most comfortable road bike ever invented
TIRE CLEARANCE
Finding ways to fit the largest tire possible into a bike with road geometry and road cranks is OPEN's specialty. The WI.DE. does this thanks to the aforementioned double-drop chainstays and a special 1x frame design. Since most of our customers run 1x drivetrains, we can use the inner chainring space to move the chainstay outward and increase tire clearance.
As a result, WI.DE. Comfortably accommodates up to 2.4 inch (61mm) tires in 650b (or 46mm on 700c wheels). Actual tire width depends on tire model and rim width, so measure instead of relying on the tire label.
SPEED & HANDLING
Most riders know that with the right bike geometry, even big tires can be fast. The WI.DE. takes this to the extreme. Of course, a solid tire isn't as fast as a pure road tire, but the delta is small enough not to affect the fun on the road. And off-road there is no comparison.
Handling is equally important as we have a good reputation to protect.
The WI.DE. maintains its agility with everything from massive mountain tires to street tires.
TRCinTRS™ TECHNOLOGY
Forget “100% Hi-Modulus Aerospace Carbon.” It's not about high or low modulus, it's about the right carbon in the right place (or TRCinTRS™ as we call it).
Fact: Stiffer carbon is more brittle. So it's great for stiffness (on the sides of the downtube), but bad for shock loading (e.g. around the head tube).
Therefore, the best layup is a mix. We strategically place ultra-high modulus carbon (very stiff) where we can and harder grades of carbon where we need to. This makes our frames both lightweight and durable.
U-TURN
Our U-Turn fork has always had tremendous tire clearance, making it the perfect complement to the WI.DE. It is also very light thanks to another OPEN innovation: Smartmount. Smartmount attaches the brake caliper directly to the fork without an adapter. The mounts are preset for 160mm discs (the only sensible choice for gravel bikes). Lighter, cleaner, stiffer and safer. Check the specifications for more details on fitting each brand of caliper.
“PORTABLE CAPACITY”
As your Wide Detours get longer, you'll want to take more stuff with you without it becoming bulky. This allows you to mount an additional bottle under the down tube and a tool box under the bottom bracket, ideal for stability. The tool box mounts are off-center to create additional distance to the chainring. If you are not using a toolbox, you can mount a larger water bottle under the downtube.
The WI.DE. is also designed to accommodate a (strapless) top tube bag as well as saddle, handlebar and frame bags for longer high-speed adventures.
WIRE.STAYS
Vertically thin chainstays and seatstays provide compliance, while their lateral width and placement ensure rock-solid propulsion. Truly the best of both worlds.
FLAT DOWN TUBE
The down tube provides rigidity and connects the steering center to the drivetrain. The flat sides place strips of ultra-high modulus carbon where it matters most.
ZERO SETBACK SEAT TUBE
A zero-offset seatpost is lighter and more efficient, so we designed our seat tube angle so that most riders can use a zero-offset seatpost instead of a seatpost.
INTERNAL MANAGEMENT
Internal cables and hoses stay clean and protected and honestly look better. Our MultiStop design accepts 1x, 2x, mechanical, Di2 and eTap.
CONTINUOUS THREAD
The locking bolt secures the hanger into the frame with the same threads that secure the thru axle on the other side. Simpler, lighter & optimized for the stiffest thru axles: Syntace X-12.
SMART MOUNT 160
Flatmount calipers attach directly to the fork and frame and are positioned for 160mm discs. No front or rear adapters/spacers required.
