Description
The most advanced aero spoke in the world - Pillar Spoke WING20 knife spoke in black
Pillar Racing Spoke has been a global leader in spoke development for over 30 years and holds countless patents on the technologies and products developed over the years. With specialized manufacturing facilities in Taiwan closely linked to its own research and development facilities, Pillar Spoke is now the first choice for spokes and nipples from the most renowned manufacturers in the bicycle industry, as the products meet the highest industry standards.Wheel physics & spokes
Spokes are a often overlooked but essential component in the bicycle and there has been no further development by the leading manufacturers in the area of high-end aero spokes for over 20 years. The problem here is that bicycles and wheels have changed completely during this time!
With the advent of disc brakes in the MTB sector, disc brakes are now widely used and are even used in time trials.
In a disc wheel, the braking force is generated at the hub and transmitted to the rim via the spokes. The rotation turns the braking force into torque, which is transferred from the brake disc to the rim through the spokes. For this reason, you can now see non-aerodynamic and heavy conventional round spokes on many wheels with disc brakes, even on high-profile aero wheels, as they can absorb torque better.
The existing, lightweight aero spokes are not designed to be able to transmit these torque loads.
Pillar Racing Spokes, as the world's leading spoke manufacturer, recognized this problem and developed a completely new type of bladed spoke!
The Wing solves this problem in an elegant way by choosing an elliptical shape!
The spoke has the necessary diameter for torque transmission and at the same time has favorable and superior aerodynamic properties with low or the same weight!
aerodynamics
Conventional knife spokes are rather flat and wide and follow the model of laminar airflow in a wind tunnel; However, in the real world, air flow is highly turbulent. It's a huge vortex, a single whirlpool of air in the impeller! In this completely chaotic flow environment, a spoke profile is required that better controls lateral flow and therefore has the lowest air resistance. Research shows that shaping cruise missile heads is most efficient here. The shape of the completely newly developed Wing Spoke is derived directly from this profile. The Wing's fully ovalized shape has been tested in some of the industry's leading wind tunnels.
The result is a saving of ~3 watts per wheelset compared to the best conventional 0.9*2.2 mm knife spokes.
Four different wing spoke models to choose from!
When choosing the right spoke, weight plays a major role as it allows direct conclusions to be drawn about the stability to be expected. It is no secret. that a solid spoke leads to a stiff wheel (with a suitable rim!).
On the other hand, the weight of the wheel quickly adds up to unfavorable levels if the spoke is simply too heavy.
Wing is therefore available in 4 different versions! As the first high-end knife spoke ever. The range of applications ranges from 4.3g to 5.7g, from mountain running bikes to MTB enduro bikes!
- More aerodynamic than any other aero spoke
- Stiffer than any other 4.3g knife spoke!
- More efficient than any other 4.3g knife spoke!
- No weight disadvantage - 4.3g / 260mm
- Swedish Fagersta T302+ stainless steel!
- Variant: Wing 21 Aero 2.2 | 1.2-2.0 | 2.0
- J-Bend, also available as a straight pull
- Colors: Black Oxidized - Silver Polished - Oil-Slick
If you use the “Individual length” option, simply add the required length into the comment field when ordering. There may be an additional charge for special lengths that need to be adjusted by hand. Since these spokes are individually cut to your length, they cannot be exchanged.
