Spokes are an often overlooked but essential component of a bicycle, and the leading manufacturers have not made any further developments in the area of high-end aero spokes for over 20 years. The problem here is that bicycles and wheels have changed completely in that time!

With the advent of disc brakes in MTB, disc brakes are now widely used and are even used in time trials.
In a disc wheel, the braking force is generated at the hub and transferred to the rim via the spokes. The rotation turns the braking force into a torque, which is transferred from the brake disc to the rim via the spokes. For this reason, many wheels with disc brakes, and even high-profile aero wheels, now have non-aerodynamic and heavy conventional round spokes, as these can absorb torque better.

The existing, lightweight aero spokes are not designed to transmit these torque loads.

The spoke has the necessary diameter to transmit torque and at the same time has favorable and superior aerodynamic properties with little or the same weight!

Conventional blade spokes are rather flat and wide and follow the model of laminar airflow in a wind tunnel; in the real world, however, the airflow is highly turbulent. It is a huge vortex, a single whirlpool of air in the impeller! In this completely chaotic flow environment, a spoke profile is needed that better controls sideways flow and thus has the lowest air resistance. Research proves that shaping cruise missile heads is most efficient here. The shape of the completely newly developed Wing Spoke is derived directly from this profile. The fully ovalized shape of the Wing has been tested in some of the industry-leading wind tunnels.
The result is a saving of ~3 watts per wheelset compared to the best conventional 0.9*2.2 mm bladed spokes.
